During medical school, he was inducted into both the Gold Humanism honor society and Alpha Omega Alpha honor society as a junior medical student.
He then completed a 5-year Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2023. He continues to contribute academically as a reviewer for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the specialty's largest peer-reviewed journal.

Dr. McCann has committed himself to the service of others throughout his life, from earning the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, to being heavily involved in providing healthcare services to underrepresented populations throughout his undergraduate, medical, and post-graduate education. This includes mission trips to Central America to repair cleft lip and palate defects in children. He is proud to build off this foundation as he continues to provide care and services for his community in Lawrence and surrounding areas in Kansas. When not working, he is a hobbyist and enjoys running, cooking, brewing beer, reading, camping and backpacking, and spending quality time with his wife, Erin and daughter, Lily.
